- When you lose a superhero
November 8, 2022- Sheila Wilson’s interview today is with Dr. Martin Williams, who is the chief of surgery at a local hospital. He is known for his work and advocacy for quality care for all.Dr. Willians spoke about Dr. Paul Farmer, a physician he has known for quite some time and he recently died at the age of 62. Dr. Farmer, a physician who championed global health and sought to bring modern medical science to those around the world. Dr. Farmer believed that the “location and circumstances of your birth should never dictate the quality of your care” He was a prolific writer and authored numerous books. Including Aids and accusations and infections and equalities. Plus many others.
- Together we can conquer the world
June 27, 2022- Sheila Wilson’s guest is Meredith Addison she worked in the Emergency Room for 44 years and now is doing occupational medicine. Meredith and Sheila spoke about how she got involved in so many volunteer jobs Like volunteer philanthropist, volunteer board of directors, and volunteer member of Emergency Nurse. Meredith speaks freely about paying things forward and helping others when they are in need.They spoke about the patients in the Emergency room setting and the fear that they could be going through. We never know what some patients are going through or have gone through and a little kindness, A little assurance maybe even holding their hand for a moment will help them get through this hospital visit.Meredith has a very special saying by Helen Keller that means a lot to her. “Alone can do little, together we can do much”
- Fill the beds
June 22nd 2022- Sheila Wilson guest Jone, a registered nurse who has been a psychiatric nurse for 44 years.
They spoke about the mental health issues and the fact that so much more is happening in the world today. It is alleged corporations want all the beds filled all the time, profits over patients? However, staffing is an issue. Nurses are leaving in numbers today; they are burned out and frustrated. Being a psychiatric nurse is a specialty. Like many other fields in nursing the coronary care unit, intensive care unit, etc. you can’t learn it in a week or 2 months. Just learning how the patient acts with their behaviors takes time. Is the patient pacing? or not eating? Yelling, talking to himself/herself or to a person that is not there.

- Employees being pushed out
June 15, 2022- Sheila Wilson’s guest is Debra Falzoi the founder of Dignity together. Debra spoke on the power and control of the people that are in charge and how it can affect the employee. The employee can feel threatened, the job is being minimized, lies are being told, and s/he feels s/he is being pushed out and doesn’t know why.The employee can get stress issues, psychological injury, and PTSD. They go to Human resource to complain about the incidents and finds out later that human resource does little or nothing. Where does that leave the employee?

May 25, 2022- In this segment, Sheila Wilson interviewed Heide Wilde. She is an Independent Wellness Partner for Amare Global, The Mental Wellness Company since it launched in 2018′.
Heidi is a Certified in Mental Fitness through Functional Foods InstituteHeidi Wilde is a 63-year-old and here to say we can be amazing no matter how old we are !!Sheila and Heidi spoke about the brain, gut, and the heart and how it works all together.
Both Sheila and Heidi also spoke about the nurses and the need to care for themselves especially having to work during the pandemic. April 19, 2022- In this segment on stop-healthcare violence, Sheila Wilson interviewed Samantha Wilding founder of Healing Healthcare Burnout.
Samantha Wilding worked in the healthcare field as a Paramedic and knows what stress and burnout are!They discussed how to block stress, combined cycle, and reflex restrain. She spoke about having a tool kit to help with the stress that can cause Burnout’ In their discussion, Samantha shared a lot of tips to prevent stress and why these tips help.

- Healthcare-nurse march, Ohio
April 13, 2022- Sheila Wilson’s guest today is Asley L. a registered nurse for 5 years. Nurse Ashley represents 1700 people (including healthcare workers) who want to make a change in healthcare in Ohio. They are pushing for legislation for safe staffing ratios, safer work environments, and other issues in this petition. They are so far fully funded by Ohio nurses, STNA, Respiratory Therapists, Medical students, physicians, and other Ohio citizens. They are going to the Statehouse on May 12th, 2022 for a peaceful demonstration. They are advocating for safer work environments for healthcare workers which in turn helps to keep people in Ohio safe if they are seeking medical care in Ohio hospitals. Our motto is People over profits. As healthcare facilities have been intentionally understaffed long before covid-19 existed, as this makes profits for healthcare facilities at the expense of patients and healthcare providers.

April 7, 2022- Sheila Wilson’s guest today is Susie Berg a certified independent Health Coach with Optavia a multifaceted health and wellness program.Susie spoke today about practical tips. She mentioned several practical tips to help you stay on track like your mindset, planning ahead, how much water to drink, and why water is important. What can help you drink more water? Habit stacking, and tips on sleeping.HealthSusie stated she has been doing coaching for 5 years now and has helped many people. She also mentioned she does speaking engagements and works with other coaches.

March 23, 2022- Bullying and Mobbing: Sheila Wilson’s guest today was Debra Falzoi founder of dignitytogether.org. The discussion was about how bullying and mobbing can affect people. Debra spoke about a recent case that has been in the headlines recently. This man took his own life after so many things happened to him by the bullying and mobbing. The Discussing moved to how some people in charge, want to keep their power, and they would do just about anything to keep it.
- Changing her story from stress to bliss
March 10, 2022- Today My guest was Amy Smith she is a registered nurse, for 25 years, she worked during the pandemic, stayed with a co-worker so she wouldn’t get her family sick with covid for months.
Last November 2021 she resigned from the hospital she worked at.
Amy’s new story is Life after Nursing. When she was asked why she left her job, her response was, she wasn’t giving the care she signed up for.! She couldn’t give the care to the patients that she knew they needed, there was not enough staff to help. She just couldn’t stay doing poor care.Amy spoke about her new adventure with her husband, they both spoke about what they enjoyed and that was, having a good cup of coffee, so today less than 4 months after she left her career in nursing, she is an entrepreneur in the coffee business, Roasting coffee beans! Their business is “The Coffeesmiths” Congratulations on your new adventure Amy.

- Tapping can peel away layers of stress
March 7, 2022- Sheila Wilson’s guest is a certified Emotional Freedom Technique Practitioner. Her name is Betty Ann Lauria. Betty Ann spoke about how she got involved in “This Emotional Freedom Technique” better known as Tapping. Betty Ann explains how tapping is a simple technique, it is like having acupuncture without the needles and studies have shown how useful it is. During the interview, she gave Sheila instructions on how to do the Tapping and Sheila talked about the effects she had from it.
- Being assaulted is not part of the job
February 28, 2022- My guest today is Joanne, a nurse that was assaulted 7 years ago. We discussed her assault and how she was pushed by a woman that was having a panic attack.
From that push, she experienced severe pain, and using ice didn’t help. When she was seen by the Physician and had the correct treatment she was told that push or shove dislocated the hardware that was in her shoulder from a skiing accident years ago.
Causing severe pain. She would need further surgery.We also discussed PTSD and going for therapy was extremely helpful. Being assaulted leaves a scar on most people, it works differently on everyone. Joanne a nurse that worked many jobs, many hours a week not only lost her ability to work but also lost all her income and had to use her savings.In all honesty, you need to listen to this Nurse and her story. There are many Nurses that may have very similar stories, could be your daughter, sister, or wife that encounter these brutal assaults in a hospital setting.

- What am I doing wrong to have this happen?
February 16, 2022- Sheila Wilson’s guest today is Debra Falzoi and the discussion was about how she was bullied at work and from that she created Dignity Together.
She spoke about different methods the perpetrators use; some are very nice others are not. We also spoke about how this affects us, the emotional turmoil, doubting ourselves, not believing this is happening to us. What am I doing wrong to have this happen?Sometimes it takes months to believe you are in a bullied situation. She stated it took about 6 months to realize her situation and she left that environment.
There is legislation out there to help the employee, not in every State yet.! “Having a safe workplace benefits not only the employee but the public and the business.”

- She remembers the assault like it happened yesterday
February 9, 2022- Sheila Wilson’s guest today is Liz, she has been a Nurse for many years. They discussed her incident with a patient that had her out of work for 2months. She had neck, shoulder, and back pain after her patient jumped on her back taking 7 people to get her off. We also discussed the lack of support from the Administration, the Manager, and the union she belongs too. The support from the staff was terrific and made her feel supported. Being assaulted, out of work, not feeling well, not being able to do what you normally are able to do is overwhelming.She was able to go back to work and was happy about that, however, she remembers the assault like it happened yesterday.
- Healthcare worker finds a new calling
February 2, 2022- Thomas spent 30 years working in the healthcare system. They spoke about healthcare and what the pandemic has done to many healthcare workers, a discussion about the trauma of seeing so many patients die caused by the pandemic! He knew he needed to take a break and he stopped working.Through the help of his family, friends, and music to bring more to his life. He found his heart and soul again.
Now he is providing a place for wear travelers especially the healthcare and frontline that are dealing with the everyday effects of this pandemic.

January 25, 2022- Sheila Wilson’s guest today is Betsy Sloan a wonderful, active advocate for Alzheimer’s disease. We spoke about how she had to teach herself about caregiving, checking out the internet when she could. We also spoke about her caring for her mother-in-law and then her husband, knowing caregiving for a 24-hour job. Speaking about mistakes, learning curves, frustration, anger, and tears.Betsy spoke about finding resources to help the caregiver. Depending on where people live, what is available to help, don’t be afraid to ask! Counseling was also mentioned, speak to someone, don’t be ashamed.
Knowing that her own self-care was important she stressed that point. Caregivers need to take care of themselves!

- Nurses Burnt Out
January 21, 2022- Today My guest was Samantha Wilding, she spent a 14-year career in emergency and critical care in Emergency Medical System. We discussed the hazards of working in that field and the violence that she saw and was subject to.
Being in an ambulance and taking care of patients is very different than working in the Emergency Rooms.She ended up BURNED OUT, the physical and mental anguish of being burnt out is not an easy road to travel. It takes time to get back to your normal self, a lot of learning, understanding, commitment, and time.She is now the founder and lead coach Of Healing Healthcare Burnout, with the mission to end burnout in the health professions.

- Back to work after 301 days
January 17, 2022- Sheila Wilson’s guest today is a registered nurse Laurie Spahl R.N. that has been on strike for 301 days! Returning to work will be very exciting she stated, she will go back to a job she loves! Laurie spoke about how she and coworkers handled the strike, the walking, the weather, the hardships of being on strike.The community was one of the biggest supporters and the nurses themselves stuck together supported each other when things got tough. When they were walking, people in cars would blow their horns, yell encouragement out the windows that gave them support.They had donations from the community of food, diapers, formula, and a lot of other items. They felt going on strike was the right thing to do to protect their patients. They stayed together thru thick and thin and showed us all that if we do stick together for something so important it will work.
- Compassion and understanding is needed

We discussed the use of security guards and if there were hands-off or hands-on and also what the staff needed to do if they were assaulted.We also spoke about “what would it be like to have something that the patient has been diagnosed with ” How would it feel, if it was happening to us? One example that was said, is a patient couldn’t get the voices in his head to stop talking all day and all night it was awful for him.
For all the patients we need to have compassion, understanding, and to step back and ask what is s/he going through?

- Hey, can I get some help here?
November 2021- Stop Health Care Violence, recently interviewed a nurse the was brutally assaulted by a patient in a psychiatric locked unit. In this interview, she tells Sheila she was with a patient and the next thing she remembered was waking up from being unconscious. She heard a person yelling he is killing the nurse! The voice she heard was from a patient and she stated if it wasn’t for him, she probably would be Dead! He saved my life!Her story is frightening, that this type of violence could happen in a hospital. The care received from the staff was also appalling!Be prepared to listen and try to understand how this happens in a hospital setting. Violence from the patients towards the staff is unbelievable but true.

Sheila is doing this series to bring more awareness of the injuries that many nurses have experienced in the Emergency Room.
This series was created before the pandemic Coronavirus-19 happened.
We realize that this pandemic is bringing much anxiety but this violence will still continue to the health care worker.
It is still important that we still provide a platform for the many that have been injured throughout the years.
Their stories need to be told and heard even in this time of a world pandemic.Time is still moving forward and how you choose to be part of the solution that is up to you.Sheila Wilson speaks to Virginia Weymouth Ferreira a Nurse that loved her profession as a Nurse, finally left ER Nursing because of the assaults she had encountered.
It is very sad that you cannot be safe in a profession that you love.
