Mark Dutra, Director of Security – Franciscan Hospital
MARK DUTRA has committed his entire career to the security and protection of others. He has led various security programs in both healthcare and higher education.
“Over 20 years ago, I developed a self-defense program focusing on domestic abuse survivors, which I still teach today. I have written and lectured extensively on topics including crisis intervention, personal safety and workplace violence prevention. I have been a strong and vocal supporter of the ethical and effective treatment of those with mental illness, substance abuse and behavioral disorders. I am a former Special Police Officer for the Town of Plymouth, Massachusetts, and a former EMT. I currently hold the position of Director of Safety and Security at Franciscan Hospital for Children in Boston, Massachusetts.
My most recent instructional development program, SPICE, (Security and Protection In Critical Environments) coaches and educates all healthcare staff in both the emotional challenges and the imperative to maintain skill development and self improvement. I have had the great fortune of training thousands of healthcare professionals from this unique perspective with the focused goal of ensuring healthy, safe and positive professional experiences with challenging patient populations.
